Cole Musgrave’s dream of interstellar travel is about to become a nightmare.

When a high-profile delivery is compromised aboard a state-of-the-art cargo vessel, the newly appointed captain finds himself embroiled in an assignment far above his pay grade. Blackmail, terrorists, a malfunctioning prototype A.I. pilot, and a sinister terraforming corporation with deep criminal ties await him. Who knew delivering cargo to the deep recesses of space could be so dangerous? Armed only with his cunning and past military experience, Cole is one against many. But this unorthodox interstellar cargo pilot won’t go down without a fight—even after he is faced with a choice that will alter the course of his life forever.

"He had me from the very first line...Perfect."
(Nick Webb - USA Today Bestselling Author of the Legacy Fleet trilogy)

"I love the way the character's opinions get across. I'm hooked!"

Icarus Interstellar Cargo Book 1 eBook Matt Verish

This is my first read of any of Matt Verish's work. Icarus goes a bit over the top at times, and requires some suspension of disbelief, like most good fiction. Having escaped semiconductor engineering in Silicon Valley after 25 years, I can see the basis for the all-powerful AI CAIN, but I prefer a bit more science with the fiction. That was Clarke's strength when he created HAL. With all that said, it's a quick, entertaining read. It'll be interesting to see where he takes the stolen interstellar freighter with its human and AI crew in the sequel.

Icarus Interstellar Cargo Book 1 eBook Matt Verish Reviews

Loved the whole ride, I'm anticipating next rollercoaster. Really excellent characters, very human and definitely not boring ordinary folk. Witty repartee along wth choice historical references. Going to have to buy some classic Deep Purple and play it on the second read through. Cole suitably roguish if a bit slow on uptake. When he hits his speed though watch out. Loved all of it. Just fun to be in it. Awaiting the 2nd adventure with anticipation. Thanks Matt.
I absolutely LOVED this and Daedalus. I love science fiction and this did not let me down. I would have definitely given it 5 stars but for one thing - the typos are utterly ridiculous! Matt Verish, do you have an editor or have someone proof read your work? Wow! It is so annoying and distracting to read these and the typos took away the joy I had in following a WONDERFUL story line. I hope you write more of these in this line of books - like how did earth get to where these stories started? Send me the manuscripts and I will proofread it for you - I have an uncanny eye for misspelled words!
I'm a sucker for such. I love thinking of a time when we can travel the galaxy and explore new worlds and a quaint ourselves with slick aliens. So saying all of this means that I liked the story. I especially lik e d the premise and the characters. All was interesting and exciting. I didn't want to put the book down so I read it straight through. Never disappointed ! Will definitely read more. Best compliment I can think of.
!
This was a very interesting book. The author said it was his first one, and I was impressed with his skill in telling a well constructed and grammatically correct tale. Few things irritate me more than being pulled out of a story line by poor grammar. The characters are well drawn and interact in a believable manner. I really admire the main character, but my favorite is a "newbie" named Cain. I am looking forward to a sequel.
Though I was originally engaged by the book, the plot itself meandered endlessly to the point where I just didn't care what happened anymore. The strongest character was the ship and that entity was a B-character for far too long in the novel. The shame is that I thought this book had potential, but ultimately the potential remained unrealized.
Well written. Interesting characters, tossed together for a simple short trip that ends up with implications that tie them together in a whole different career path. Book One, like a TV pilot, establishes the situation that forces this ship and crew to bond into an outcast team. Looking forward to Book Two to see where the team goes.
I loved this book. It's well written and fun. I'm very curious to see where this series will go next, I will definitely be looking forward to the next book. I like the characters, their development and their flaws. The characters are very realistic, it takes time to get to know them yet they are still entirely unpredictable. I like piracy, mix that with space and flagrant disregard of authority, add in an attractive enigma of doctor, I'm all set. I appreciate the story and it's twists, kept me reading and definitely had some surprises! DEFINITELY worth reading.
